HASA boasts a lean but efficient management structure supported by an highly qualified and experience administration staff. More importantly the association is grateful for the continued support it gets from its partners and service providers and suppliers. It would not be possible to function without their continued support over the years. Let us all unite in striving to provide a better healthcare system for all.

Chief Executive Officer
Adv. K. Worrall-Clare is the CEO of HASA, and also temporarily holds the position of Executive Officer: Legal Affairs. He is responsible for managing the strategic and operational needs of HASA. Worrall-Clare, a respected commentator on health related law, also renders legal advice to members of the association. He has numerous academic publications and training manuals under his belt.
Worrall-Clare continues to research health related law and policy, and in particular the development of a human rights-based approach to healthcare provision. He has a special interest in minors’ rights to privacy and confidentiality especially with informed consent. His studies concentrate on biomedical ethics in the private hospital sector and, in this regard, has completed a postgraduate diploma in Applied Ethics.

Executive Officer: Health Services Delivery
Sharon Slabbert began her working life as a registered nurse and midwife working in both public and private clinical settings. In 1986 she joined the staff of Park Lane Clinic and has worked in the private hospital industry for 24 years.
For the last 16 years she has filled various positions at the Hospital Association of South Africa. Currently she is involved in matters related to Health Service Delivery. This includes nursing, training, quality assurance and complaint management. She represents private hospital on numerous committees in both public and private entities, as well as serving on the Board of the Council of Health Services Accreditation of South Africa and Chairperson of the Health and Welfare Sector Education authority. She was appointed to this position in 2005. She recently completed a short course on Financial Management at the S A Institute of Government Auditors. She is a member of the Forum for Professional Nurse Leaders. Sharon has written numerous articles and has presented papers at conferences on various topics related to nursing and hospital management.
Sharon is married, has 2 daughters and enjoys reading, embroidery, gardening and her dachshunds.

Executive Officer: Corporate Communications
Lucas Malambe is Hasa's Executive Officer, Corporate Communications educated at the universities of the North and Witwatersrand. Malambe has a postgraduate qualification in Business Management and Economics from the University of Johannesburg where he is finishing his Masters in Commerce (Business Management).
He is also the editor of the prestigious research-driven publications Health Annals and the monthly Hasa News.
He has seven years experience in public communications having worked for DRUM magazine as a health journalist, sub-editor, and columnist. Lucas also worked for Lifeline Southern Africa interfacing with the organisation's various publics. At this time he contributed regularly to publications such as Business Day's Health Supplement and Mshana as a health correspondent and health-advice columnist respectively.

PA to the CEO
Marianne Jacobs has been with the Hospital Association of South Africa for over 16 years, and is PA to the CEO, Adv Kurt Worrall-Clare, and Sharon Slabbert. She also holds the position of Office Administrator and deals with the financial side of the company, which includes sending out invoices for Membership Subscriptions, Health Annals Advertisements, etc. and overseeing payment of same, as well as all other financial duties.

Personal Assistant: Administration & Communication
Dawn Adams has 11 years experience working in corporate communication, nursing recruitment, administration, marketing and sales. As the new administrator in the Admin and Communications Department Dawn will be responsible for the co-ordination of the production of all Hasa publications. She is also in charge of the maintenance of the industry’s database. The bubbly Dawn loves watching sports and spending quality time with her family. She joined Hasa in May 2009.

Receptionist
Enith Felicia Scharneck has been at the frontline office of Hasa for the last eight years. She has previously worked for a variety of law firms and detective agencies including Diamond Detective Agency, Attorneys Bax, and Smith Tabana Loon & consultants. Polite and down to earth Enith handles everyone with superlative care. Enith has been married for 27 years and has a daughter (27) and son (20) and a grandson (1).

The annual Hasa Awards of Excellence are part of the Ministerial Healthcare Awards. This year's theme is Quality is Excellence. The process to find the best of the best in the private hospital industry is nearing its end. The Health Excellence Awards 2010 will take place in November 2010 and the deadline date for submission of entries is 07 October 2010.

The Children’s Act 38 of 2005 (as amended). How does it affect healthcare?
Several outstanding provisions of the Children’s Act [Act 38 of 2005] have become operational. The relevant Government Gazette has made the date upon which the law became operational as being 01 April 2010.
