Court rules RPL unlawful

MEDIA STATEMENT

Thursday, 29 July 2010: The Pretoria High Court has ruled in favour of the Hospital Association, ER24, Netcare911 as consolidated with other parties in their case against the Department of Health regarding the Reference Price List (RPL) regulations. Inclusive in this ruling is a cost order in favour of the applicants.

The Hospital Association of South Africa (Hasa) says it is satisfied with the outcome of the court’s decision.

“It was with great reluctance that private hospitals embarked on court action on the matter,” says Hasa CEO, Kurt Worrall-Clare. “However, it was important to ensure that the rights of all stakeholders were protected and that there was a fair and accurate RPL process as a consequence thereof.”
