The importance of a high calibre of skills in private hospital sector can never be understated. In fact, presently, more than three thirds of private hospital expenditure goes to personnel. This is the reason why Hasa is actively encouraging the supply, retention, repatriation and development of healthcare personnel in South Africa, and supports all initiatives to address the current skills shortage in the industry. The current nurse and doctor profile per bed in South Africa demands attention, and the private hospital sector invests a lot of resources in the training of nurses, pharmacists, paramedics and other critical skills.
