It will be hard today to imagine modern medicine and healthcare without its innovative and high-technological medical devices, surgicals and drugs, and the knowledge associated with these. Indeed, these innovative devices are an integral part in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses. The use of health technologies plays a major role in bringing costs down but, in recent times, critics of health technology have blamed them for the escalation of costs by simply focusing on the cost to buy and run such devices.

Nonetheless, they reduces the need for ongoing treatment which may be costly in the long run, offer less invasive (thus cheap0 procedures, and facilitate quicker recovery. South Africa has many pharmaceutical and medical devices associations governing the many suppliers of medical technology.

Innovative Medicine of SA is the pharmaceutical industry association promoting the value of medicine innovation in healthcare. Samed is responsible for the ethical advancement of the interests of the medical devices industry within South African, while promoting better patient outcomes.
